This is a sauce that is served with ssam. Ssam is greens (lettuce or steamed cabbage, commonly), served with rice, meat, and ssamjang.


  • 2 T. green onion, finely minced
  • 1 t. minced garlic
  • 1 T. dark sesame oil
  • Dash of freshly ground black pepper
  • 5 oz. dwenjang (soybean paste)
  • 1 T. kochujang (hot bean paste)
  • 1 T. sugar
  • 1 T. sesame seeds
  • 1 T sweet rice wine
The dwenjang and kochujang will be hard to come by unless you go to a Korean specialty shop.


Mix well. Makes 1 cup.
